Frequently Asked Questions
Music therapy is a research-backed practice that uses the power of music to support growth, connection, and healing.
Led by trained and certified professionals, music therapy uses carefully designed musical experiences to nurture social, emotional, communication, cognitive, and motor skills.
At Prelude Therapy, we believe music isn’t just an art form — it’s a bridge to new possibilities, joyful moments, and meaningful progress.
Sessions take place in your home or online. In-home sessions are available throughout Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. If you aren't in the Midlands, feel free to reach out, and I will do my best to get you in contact with a music therapist near you!
Not at all!
You (and your child) don't need any musical skills or experience to benefit from music therapy.
Music therapy is about using music as a tool for growth — not about performing or being "good" at music. Every child brings their own creativity, curiosity, and spirit, and we meet them exactly where they are.
At Prelude Therapy, we use music to create connection, spark joy, and support real-world skills — no musical background needed!
Music therapy can support children with a wide range of needs and diagnoses. At Prelude Therapy, we work with children experiencing developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, sensory processing challenges, emotional or behavioural difficulties, and more. Because music touches so many parts of the brain, it can help strengthen communication, emotional regulation, motor skills, social skills, and confidence.
If you're wondering whether music therapy could be a fit for your child, we’d be happy to talk with you and explore it together.
Every session is tailored to your child's needs, goals, and interests.
We might sing, move to music, play instruments, listen to songs, or create music together — all designed to support skills like communication, motor development, emotional regulation, and social connection.
Sessions are playful, encouraging, and focused on creating meaningful moments of growth.
Consistency helps children build momentum and confidence.
Most families choose weekly sessions, but we’ll design a plan that fits your child’s needs and your family’s schedule.
We’ll check in often and adjust as your child grows!
Our individual music therapy sessions start at £60. Please get in touch for a detailed fee schedule and to find the right fit for your family's needs.
